It takes craft to create an IPA like Proper Job 0.5%. Because that’s the only way to lock in all the authentic taste. That bright, zingy pineapple and bittersweet grapefruit, blooming from our blend of cascade and chinook hops, and a malty sweetness that refreshes with every sip.

Brewing at 0.5% abv is technically challenging. Our method controls the presence of alcohol-forming sugars by mashing at higher than normal temperatures, which prevents those sugars being created at the very start of the brewing process.
We also use a specific yeast strain that doesn't ferment maltose - which is referred to as a biological, bio-active method of brewing low-alcohol beverages.
It's taken us more than 2 years to evolve our brewing methodology to create a naturally authentic beer, worthy of being branded Proper Job 0.5%.
Just like Proper Job, our new 0.5% IPA is powerfully hopped, with vibrant tropical and citrus flavours. Fresh and crisp and reliable quality in every sip.
We use a large proportion of Cascade, Willamette and Chinook which are the signature hops for Proper Job. They help us to achieve those citrus and grapefruit flavours so synonymous with Proper Job.
The result is a clear, clean and crisp low-alcohol beer that naturally resembles Proper Job without any additional flavourings.
Under the UK government guidance, alcohol-free drinks are specified as any beers that are up to 0.05% ABV for sale, whereas low alcohol must be less than 1.2%.Sometimes these types of drinks might be described as ‘zero alcohol’ but that can be misleading.
As always, we do things properly - so are clearly describing Proper Job as low alcohol. It can be enjoyed on its own, as part of a casual evening with friends, or even as the perfect pairing to dishes such as katsu curry, bangers and mash or a Caesar salad - thanks to its citrus nose, hoppy bitterness and clean crisp finish,.
No, we do not use either ‘osmosis’ or ‘evaporation’ to make Proper Job 0.5%. We use a unique brewing process, which allows us to control the presence of alcohol-forming sugars and restricting the fermentation.
No. Your blood alcohol content can’t build up to a level that makes you feel drunk is because your body processes the alcohol in a low-alcohol beer almost as quickly as you drink it.
For instance, a pint of 0.5% beer contains about 0.28 units or 2.2g of alcohol. The average person’s body will process this in around 16 minutes (compared to almost 3 hours for a pint of 5% beer). Your body will process the alcohol in the same way it does with foods that naturally contain small amounts of alcohol, like rye bread, apple juice and bananas.
So, even if you do manage to drink several pints of 0.5% beer quickly, your body will soon process the alcohol. It does the same with foods that naturally contain small amounts of alcohol, like rye bread, apple juice and bananas.
