Apprenticeships

T rain for your dream job with an apprenticeship at St Austell Brewery.

Are you looking to kick-start a new career but have little or no experience? With a St Austell Brewery apprenticeship, you can gain essential skills and qualifications through a series of practical, hands-on work experiences and academic-based training.

Our apprenticeship courses are tailored to prosperous futures in industries such as hospitality, brewing, marketing, engineering, trade, sales, distribution, and IT. You’ll earn while you learn, guided every step of the way by experienced teams across the business. We have an unrivalled network of business and education partners across the West Country too.

Getting your foot in the door can seem a little daunting, but the route to your dream job could be a lot easier than you imagine.

Apprenticeship myth-busting

There are a couple of common misconceptions that need clearing up. Firstly, it doesn’t matter how old you are. Rather than being aimed at young adults fresh out of school and college, apprenticeships serve as career pathways for people of all ages, and from all walks of life too. Secondly, you don’t need any experience; this really is a fresh start in a brand-new industry.

We also offer exceptional rates of pay. We pay our apprentices proper full-time salaries, and they have access to the same benefits as all of our employees - including 30% off food and drink and 50% off accommodation in all our managed pubs, inns, and hotels.

About us

St Austell Brewery is a family-owned business with world-class brewing and pubs at its heart. We are proud of our 170-year heritage, independence, and values. We brew award-winning beers, including Tribute Pale Ale and Proper Job IPA, which are distributed around the world from our state-of-the-art production sites at St Austell Brewery and Hare Brewery. Our portfolio of 180 pubs, inns, and hotels are go-to destinations where good times are celebrated with quality food and drink.

Our mission

We’re passionate about delivering excellence in everything we do, providing memorable experiences that inspire and delight our guests. This is only possible with exceptional team members. That’s why we are committed to nurturing the talent found in every function of the business. Our close-knit teams benefit from fantastic training and career development opportunities, ensuring a successful future while having plenty of fun along the way.

Why St Austell Brewery?

We won the BII NITA (National Innovation in Training Award) for ‘Best Apprenticeship Programme’ in 2017 and have been shortlisted for the award since. Many of our apprentices have gone on to receive praise and recognition following their graduation. In recent years, Chef Apprentice Brandon Penwarden won ‘Achiever of the Year’ at the 2019 Cornwall Apprenticeship Awards, and Haydn Rogers earned a place on Business Cornwall’s ‘30 Under 30’ in 2020 after completing his engineering apprenticeship.

We love to celebrate our successes internally too. Each year, we stage a Big Apprenticeship Lunch at St Austell Brewery. Apprentices from across our managed and tenanted estate get together and we highlight outstanding performances with honours. We also name an ‘Apprentice of the Year’ at our annual Tribute Awards.

Being a chef is more than just a job. It’s a passion that demands a high level of skill, imagination, and dedication to delivering experiences that delight. Crafting culinary magic is something of an art form, and it’s one of the most rewarding occupations around.

With pubs across the West Country, we are also able to offer an unrivalled hospitality career progression, starting from front-of-house roles. You could be qualified as a hospitality manager in less than five years - no previous hospitality experience is necessary!

It’s where we began and remains at the heart of everything we do. We founded the UK’s first-ever brewer apprenticeship in 2019, nurturing the beer industry’s future generations of talent in a world-class, multi-award-winning production team. From working in our laboratory perfecting beer to getting stuck in with the manufacturing team as they get the beer ready to go, this is a thrilling part of the business to build a career.

We wholesale products right across the West Country and sell our renowned beers both nationally and internationally. As a result, we’re always on the lookout for enthusiastic people to join our high-energy sales team, ensuring we shout loud and proud about the great products we have to offer.

Storing and getting our products where they need to be in time for our customers is a key part of our business. Whether working in warehouse logistics or delivering goods to our customers, you’ll find great opportunities to work in one of the largest distribution networks in the South West.
