Our Exceptional Achievement Award from CAMRA Kernow

W e are delighted to have been presented with an Exceptional Achievement Award by the Cornwall branch of the Campaign for Real Ale group (CAMRA Kernow).

The award celebrates our continuous production of real ale during the 50 years that CAMRA has produced its Good Beer Guide.

Founded by real ale enthusiasts in 1971, CAMRA represents beer drinkers and pub-goers across the UK. The team strive to promote and advocate pubs and clubs as social centres, the benefits of responsible social drinking, and the production of quality real ale, cider and perry.

Dugg Polman, CAMRA Kernow’s Chair, and Russ Durbridge, Brewery Liaison Officer, visited St Austell Brewery’s Hicks Bar, along with members, to directly deliver the certificate on Thursday January 5th, 2023.

The award was gratefully received by Kevin Georgel, our Chief Executive, and Georgina Young, our Head Brewer.

Both spoke very warmly of St Austell Brewery’s links with CAMRA Kernow, and the importance of preserving and championing Britain’s national drink – cask beer. Meanwhile, CAMRA members were able to sample some of our latest brews and get reacquainted with some old favourites.

CAMRA members in New Inn

Later in the day, CAMRA Kernow also visited the New Inn at Tywardreath - one of our tenanted sites - to deliver another special award. In recognition of appearing in over 40 of the 50 editions of the Good Beer Guide, a certificate was presented to Christian and Stephen Hanks, our tenants, to mark the achievement.
