Bright amber gold with copper tints. Intense Muscat aromas and fresh raisin fruit backed by a hint of fortifying spirit and aged oak characters. It is lusciously sweet.
St Austell's desire to work with family wineries extends almost to the outback of Australia and to the unique wine making area of Rutherglen. Founded in 1870, Colin and Malcolm Campbell are the fifth generation now at the helm and promote their own wines as well as the wines of the region. The award winning Campbells Rutherglen Muscat is made using the solera system, commonly associated with Sherry production. The fruit is fortified with a natural grape spirit similar to the port method and aged over a number of years in the hot climate of inland Australia, that could be compared to the Madeira process of ageing.
Chocolate based desserts, richer flavours of coffee, caramel, vanilla and butterscotch. Also cheeseboard with quince jelly.
