It has a bright ruby colour and there are sweet red cherries, mulberries and plums on the nose with a hint of tea tree and liquorice. The tannins are soft and well-integrated and this vintage has good acidity, depth of fruit and a long finish.

With the troubles in Syria, you would be forgiven for thinking that the Lebanese wineries have disappeared into the desert. In fact, they are thriving despite risking life and death to grow and harvest grapes. Chateau Musar's red is still Lebanon's most celebrated wine described by many as one of the great wines of the world; a gamey blend of Cabernet, Cinsault and Carignan. The 2011 is a vibrantly powerful vintage and cellared well it will keep for decades.

The perfect serve

Red meats, especially game, seasonal casseroles and mature cheeses.
