Christmas in Devon – What's On?

T he most magical time of year has arrived in Devon. Across the county, dazzling Christmas markets and winter wonderlands have transformed popular destinations.

Whether you’re looking to find the perfect present for a loved one, fancy soaking up the atmosphere at a beautiful market, or are seeking an unforgettable experience aboard a seasonal train ride, Devon offers it all and more. Here are some of the highlights.

 

Exeter Christmas Market (1st - 18th)

Exeter Cathedral will be hosting its Christmas Market from the beginning of the month, right up to Sunday 18th December. This staple of the city’s festive calendar enjoys a wonderful atmosphere and showcases an impressive range of suppliers, both local and from further afield. Kingsbridge Celebrates Christmas (3rd)

Get your skates on for the free ice rink at Kingsbridge town square, and a whole lot more! This popular day of festivities showcases a farmers’ market set-up, complete with stalls lining Fore Street, a visit from Santa, and a fantastic roster of live entertainment. Christmas at the Castle (1st - 31st)

Head to Powderham Castle throughout December for an abundance of festive cheer. The light walk, which extends for over a mile through the gardens and grounds, is back. The castle will be open and decorated with lights, displays, and storytelling. The trail leads to a secret garden and petting zoo, and to the Potting Shed where warm refreshments await. The Christmas Barn hosts a market with food and entertainment, while the Grotto is where you’ll find Santa. Find out more here. 

 

Plymouth Christmas Market (1st - 18th)

Get your presents sorted throughout December while absorbing the festivities at Plymouth Christmas Market. The heart of the city centre is renowned for its open-air bar, delicious food and drink offerings, and a patchwork of artisan stalls showcasing unique gifts. The Polar Express (1st - 23rd) 

South Devon Railway hosts a family-friendly highlight of the festive calendar – be sure to book your tickets soon, as they sell out quickly! The iconic Polar Express steam engine will be carving its way through Devon. Passengers will meet Santa and his elves, and that’s not all. As well as the train ride, you can enjoy Christmas food stalls, an exciting pre-show before departure, and a trip to Santa’s workshop. Get tickets here. 

 

Christmas at Pennywell Farm (2nd - 24th)

Famous for its adorable miniature piglets, Pennywell Farm ups its charm factor every Christmas with an amazing festive experience. The farm will once again be transformed into a winter wonderland, complete with North Pole, Elves Sweetshop, Father Christmas, and a whole lot more.
